HAB spent the first day of the White Lake project preparing equipment for the application.  This included assembly of the barge’s application boom, programing the barge’s computerized dosing system, launching the barge into the lake, setting up on-shore storage tanks and confirming the delivery plan for the alum and buffer.  A small restricted work area was established to keep lake users at a safe distance from the alum storage and barge filling locations. Final calibrations of the barge computer system were conducted and the equipment to monitor the lake’s water quality was prepared for use.

We also enjoyed visits from numerous community members offering their support for the project. We appreciate this, can sense the enthusiasm for the project and are excited to begin the application in morning! Thanks to the Town for making this application to improve the lake. My only complaint is this could have been started on a Monday and not impact 2 weekends.

Thank you for your support of the project, as well as your feedback! The project timeline was set to make sure the project was completed before the upcoming water festival.

Will the lake be safe for swimmers during water festival this year?

The conditions of the project set forth by the State of North Carolina are to avoid areas of recent application for a period of 24 hours. The planned completion date 5/13, well before the start of the water festival. Thank you for your question!

Thank you to the Town of White Lake, the White Lake Marine, and the workers involved in the application to improve the water quality! I understand boat/jet ski owners wanting to use the lake during the application times/days but I also think we should stay off the water until all is complete! There is plenty of days ahead for water recreation! And btw, we are jet ski owners and have stayed off the water this weekend!
